Ford turns to TikTok for travel series

The car marque has teamed up with travel influencer Kevin Penrose to promote its electric vehicles.

Ford Ireland has teamed up with travel influencer Kevin Penrose to show just how far one electric vehicle charge can take a driver. 

The travel series, entitled Single Charge Road Trips: Ireland Edition will run across Instagram and TikTok and will put Ford’s electric vehicles to the test. 

Penrose takes his viewers on a road trip across three Irish counties featuring sea, mountain, and incredible roads. A journey which takes place with just one charge.

The series is designed to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions that still surround electric vehicles.

Penrose visits County Mayo, County Sligo, and County Donegal in just one charge. The series showcases the power and potential of Ford’s electric vehicles. 

John Manning, Market Lead at Ford Ireland, commented: “It’s great to see the Ford Explorer embark on an epic Irish road trip – it really highlights the capabilities of the vehicle, and in particular, how far you can travel on a single charge, even in winter conditions.” 

Developed by Wieden+Kennedy London's social-first creative studio, Bodega, the campaign gave Penrose full creative control, plotting the route as well as shooting and editing the content.

The social-first campaign is the latest activation by Ford to highlight electric vehicles. Earlier this month the car marque debuted a nostalgia-filled campaign to debut the all-electric Capri

In addition, Ford created a content series for Amazon Prime, following travel influencer Lexie Limitless on an extraordinary 30,000-kilometer journey across six continents in an electric Ford Explorer.

Gabriel Marchi, Head of Bodega London, added: "Our goal here is to help make Ford synonymous with electric vehicles by building buzz in highly engaged communities. We were already fans of Kevin’s content and loved how he brought a fresh take on Irish adventures and travel, meaning he was the perfect creator to share the pen with in doing just that. After all - he was the expert - so we fully trusted him to plot out a driving route that would both be entertaining, show range, while keeping it under one charge.”

He continued: “This was the first influencer partnership from Bodega and Wieden+Kennedy London where both client and agency were not on the actual shoot, and we think that trust has paid off with compelling and authentic content.”

A partnership which underlines that authentic brand and influencer partnerships are increasingly dependent on brands being comfortable relinquishing control to creators. In this case quite literally placing the creator in the driving seat, in all senses.
