Culture

Our story began 15 years ago in New Zealand, a progressive, liberal country known for boxing above its weight in both creativity and inventiveness. A place that has heavily influenced the style of our culture and the size of our ambition. Born from the belief that the world needs no more ordinary, we called ourselves Special as a daily reminder of the standard we set for ourselves in everything we do.

Since our launch, we have expanded into Australia, the US, Japan and now Europe, with the most recent office opening here in London just over a year ago. We are one agency with eight doors, pulling together world class talent across geographies to swarm around problems with shared insights and local market nuance.

We firmly believe that to truly do our most creative and innovative work as humans, we need to be stimulated by diversity of thought. And we need to feel valued and empowered in a safe space to share our ideas and views.

At Special, this means creating an environment where people from all contexts feel like they belong. This is easy to say, but hard to do really well. It takes conscious, daily action to recruit, support and empower brilliant people. We actively seek out diverse talent and have put in place policies to make sure we help everyone feel supported and valued.

We are well-versed in creating powerful global brand platforms but equally experienced in creating deeply resonant local campaigns influenced by specific market nuance and insight. As an agency group, we were early to put cultural strategy at the heart of our strategic process. Setting out, we knew that to win the next client we needed to earn disproportionate fame with the clients we had. So everything we do is built from cultural strategy married with deep consumer insight and brand understanding.
