Discipline Focus: PR
David Sanger
Head of PR & ContentShare
The world of PR is a complex one. But one that's becoming increasingly important given the rise of value it has for brands. You could say it's enjoying a bit of a golden age right now. According to the 2019 PRCA Census the PR and communications industry is worth £14.9 billion, growing by 7.9% since 2018 when the industry was worth £13.8 billion.
Plus at Creativebrief, last year we reported a 220% increase in searches across the discipline on our platform. And it's not difficult to see why, as PR skills are becoming increasingly relevant for a brand to stand out - be it through storytelling, earned media or influencing corporate reputation. Below, we scope out the landscape and offer our take on the case studies, agencies, outlooks and more that help navigate the sector.
Case Studies
The case studies on our platform show the full breadth of what PR can do for a brand with the right agency at the helm. In this case study from Coolr, they explain how they took advantage of Kanye West's preference for McDonald's over their client Burger King. This is a great example of the PR coverage garnered from such a social campaign. One million Twitter likes later, and they'd delivered a unique social moment. Whilst Brands2Life explore how they were tasked with encouraging a new level of engagement with Canary Wharf Groupe. With the installation of Short Story Stations around the area, Brands2Life utilised them to place their client at the heart of media talkability. Find these case studies and more over on the platform.
Reviews
Over the past 18 months, we've enjoyed some great PR reviews from Trustly, Garmin and Britvic. Whilst Pukka Pies' recent decision to address their agency roster meant them appointing Richmond & Towers as their PR and social agency. You can read about their appointment here. And find all our review news over on our News page.
Our Outlook
Given the recent furore between BrewDog and Manifest over the ads for Punk AF, our managing director Charlie talked to PRWeek US about the need for IP theft to become a greater cause for concern for the PR industry. He also spoke to UK News Editor Arvind Hickman about the increasing need to transform the traditional pitch process, and appeared on The PR Show to champion our ethos and discuss some of the alternative processes we’ve trialled.
The Agency Landscape
There are a huge number of ways PR can impact a brand, and because of this, the industry is flourishing more than ever. We take pride in helping PR agencies showcase their best work and stand out, allowing their agency brand to flourish in an over-crowded landscape. But with over 95,000 practioners in PR and comms in the UK, it's even more important to know your agencies. From new members Tangerine Communications, to Weber Shandwick, to Third City and more.
