The agency’s open-source Menopause policy is a must-read for businesses seeking to build more inclusive cultures in the wake of the pandemic.
900,000 women a year in the UK leave jobs because of menopausal symptoms. At any one moment in time there are up to 15.5 million women experiencing varying stages of menopausal transition for anything between two and twelve years.
Yet, despite the huge impact of menopause on women in the workplace; when it comes to talking about menopause in the workplace there remains a taboo.
In a bid to break that taboo and to encourage more support for menopausal women in the workplace Dark Horses is launching an open-source menopause policy.
The policy is designed to help everyone understand what menopause is and how it affects the women they work with, therefore giving everyone the tools to help those going through it without it negatively impacting how they are treated or feel they are treated, at work.
It not only describes the science behind menopause but lists all of the symptoms as well as offering advice for those going through it to better manage their working lives, as well as offering ideas on treatments and support.
The policy also includes a section giving advice for managers and colleagues on how to make the working environment better.
The open-sourced policy has been spearheaded by Melissa Robertson, CEO of Dark Horses who has sought to remove the taboo from talking about the impact of the menopause of women in the workplace.
