Stepping into the Spotlight: Prioritising progress
The IPA Stepping into the Spotlight event offered a moment of reflection as well as practical insights on how to shape a better workforce.
I don’t like to sacrifice time spent procrastinating. It is in those moments that, occasionally I’ll grant you, you can be visited by an incredible idea.
I don’t like to sacrifice time spent procrastinating. I think it’s useful, important even to give your brain the space to wander freely through even the most random of thoughts. It is in those moments that, occasionally I’ll grant you, you can be visited by an incredible idea.
Often, those ideas are quick to appear and even quicker to disappear as you are momentarily distracted by the mid-afternoon snack run or a colleague with a question about tea. This is where Superfocus comes in. A desktop and mobile app, Superfocus allows you to visualise “the things you want to do”, appealing to the visual artists among us who maybe revised using mind maps in school.
Superfocus is the minimalist upgrade our mind maps needed, providing a clean, stripped back canvas on which we can list out our goals and all the steps needed to achieve them. The app lets you create categories from home to travel to more unique sections, grouping your hopes and dreams alongside your weekly to do list.
The creators behind the app, Sean Pecknold and Adi Goodrick from creative studio Sing-Sing, were inspired by Dieter Ram’s less-is-more ethos. They were intent on creating an easy-to-use, simplistic service, without the noise and notifications of other tech offerings, “for a calmer and more focused world”. Far from encouraging you to throw out the sketch book, Superfocus lets you simply visualise all your ideas in one place, so that you see them through to the end.
As the pair say, “We believe more tools should be made by artists and something as simple as a list app can be as beautiful as the things that come from it”.
The app is currently available on iOS and on the App Store. Visit the Superfocus website to find out more.
