Virgin Active campaign trolls toxic wellness culture
The global marketing push urges consumers to push back against wellness washing
The initiative aims to empower Black creatives across various industries including fashion, youth & community, entertainment and media
To empower Black creatives, Instagram has launched its new cross-channel campaign, Black Perspectives, to uplift some of the best Black talent across a range of industries.
As part of the new initiative, Instagram has brought together four leading Black British creators who will each run a project to inspire the creator community and amplify voices both on and off Instagram. Through the campaign, Instagram will showcase four unique projects to support young emerging Black creatives, helping them to reach new heights in their careers.
The initiative aims to challenge the status quo and empower Black creatives across various industries including fashion, youth & community, entertainment and media.
The campaign launches with social media executions by Black Perspectives’ four creators in the UK and will be supported by a branded partnership with pop culture bible, Complex UK designed to engage with Gen Z and their communities.
The UK creators featured are LGBTQ+ youth worker and community builder Tanya Compas, GUAP co-founder Ibrahim Kamara, DJ, presenter (Kiss, No Signal) Henrie Kwushue and leading lifestyle content creator Esther Areola (Estare). They will each run their own bespoke initiatives, sharing their journeys on Instagram from March to June.
As part of the initiative the creators will also work alongside teams from Instagram’s parent company, Meta, to help inform product and policy developments that support creator well-being and equity on Instagram. They will join research sessions to share their insights and experiences, test tools before they are rolled out and provide ongoing feedback on Instagram’s approach.
Black creatives are a large driving force behind the Instagram creator community and since the platform began they have been at the helm of some of the most innovative and viral trends, inspiring and entertaining users all over the world. Through creativity, innovation and connections, Black creators are imperative to shaping culture through Instagram and the brand believes that all Black creators deserve equal opportunities.
“At Instagram, we’re committed to supporting and nurturing the careers of emerging Black talent and Black Perspectives is an embodiment of that.” explained Georgia Kelly, Emerging Creator Partnerships, UK & Nordics, Instagram, “Black creators are consistently driving culture forward on the platform and too often face barriers to success in the creative industry. Together with our change-making lead creators, we’ve curated a programme that will support emerging talent to forge careers for themselves both on and off Instagram.”
Instagram has launched Black Perspectives as part of its ongoing commitment to championing and supporting the careers of young Black creators on the platform and beyond.
