A trailer for Season 5 of Netflix's OITNB, created using charming puppet animation.

The worst part about waiting for the next season of a show to launch is forgetting what happened in the last one. The Smalls worked with Netflix to combat this forgetfulness with an Unraveled recap of the first four seasons of Orange is the New Black (OITNB) in the run up to Season 5’s premiere.
The video doesn’t use flashbacks to previous seasons to summarise the series, but instead, a collection of felt puppets. The ‘unraveled’ animation tells the, oft intimate, story of the seasons that have come before. There is no dialogue, but the actions are pretty self-explanatory from fist fights to broom cupboard shenanigans, pregnancy tests, as well as the darker undertones of life behind bars.
OITNB is a comedy drama that was created by Jenji Kohan for Netflix and is based on Piper Kerman’s memoir about her year in a minimum security federal prison. It is Netflix’s most watched original series and has received 16 Emmy Award nominations and had four wins since it premiered in 2013.
The acclaim for the show comes from its, frequently graphic, depictions of race, gender, sexuality and body types, as well as being praised for humanising prisoners. The series is gritty, dark and hilarious, all of which is captured in the silence, expressions and actions of the felt puppets.
