Arts & CultureWhile we may be confined to our homes, with cultural spots still closed amid the ongoing pandemic, the Metropolitan Museum of Art decided to instead open its virtual doors to an experience-starved public.
Created with UNIT9 alongside Verizon, ‘The Met Unframed’ offers viewers access to digital galleries and games that unlock augmented reality versions of Met masterpieces. The experience is accessible from any smart device with 4G or 5G and ran for five weeks.
‘The Met Unframed’ is an innovative viewing opportunity that injects some fun into the experience of the museum as well as offering education, expanding how people both understand and appreciate art. It was designed not to replicate the physical world but rather to create a digital addition, to demonstrate the power of a hybrid experience.
Max Hollein, Director of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, explained: “Since its founding, The Met’s mission has been to connect people to art and ideas, and to one another, something we’ve found to be more powerful than ever over these last months of isolation and uncertainty.”
