Media & EntertainmentTo celebrate the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company the brand is showcasing the places and locations which have inspired some of its most iconic films.
To mark 100 years of Disney magic, the campaign, created by PrettyGreen, sees the brand highlight the real-world locations which have inspired some of the most famous scenes in Disney history.
The campaign includes locations such as Great Fosters, a Tudor-era manor house which was visited by Walt Disney during a holiday in 1935. The manor house’s topiary maze is likely the inspiration for Alice in Wonderland’s maze. While iconic London department store Liberty London, is said to be the original workplace of Cruella.
According to research commissioned by the Walt Disney Company, two in five (42%) of British consumers are completely unaware that many Disney films, parks and attractions are based on real-world locations. Less than 10% were aware that St Abbs Village in Berwickshire, Scotland, was the location of Thor’s home in Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame. The picturesque fishing village inspired the fictional location where Thor and the remaining Asgardians resided after the war.
Disney has created a range of celebratory images shot at some of the key locations, such as Alice in Wonderland at Great Fosters and Ashdown Forest which inspired the Hundred Acre Wood, the home of Winnie the Pooh and Friends that provided the backdrop for many a game of Pooh Sticks.
The campaign is also asking fans to create content of their favourite Disney scene and share to social with the hashtag #Disney100TheLandmarks to stand the chance of being transformed into one of their favourite Disney characters in a photoshoot with professional portrait photographer, Linda Blacker.
Disney has also revealed the locations which British consumers would love to see in future films such as the Lake District (14%), Loch Ness (10%) and Edinburgh Castle (10%).
Rebecca Cline, Director of the Walt Disney Archives, explained: “Towards the end of his life, Walt Disney was honoured as the “Showman of the World”. It was a very apt honour, as he was fascinated and inspired by everything he experienced and saw, no matter where it was. As he once said himself, “Always, as you travel, assimilate the sounds and sights of the world. And we have all benefited from his love of cultures the world over.”
By recreating the magic moments of Disney in the real world the campaign successfully captures iconic memories through a fresh lens.
