‘Being frazzled in the workplace has been dangerously normalised’
Comedian and actress Ruby Wax, Founder of mental health charity Frazzled, on taking stress seriously.
There are several things a Monday morning commute is good for. One, catching up on life admin. Two, napping. And three, of course, mindlessly scrolling through your friends’ Instagram stories from the weekend.
To mark the arrival of Canary Wharf Group's new initiative - Short Story Stations - which dispense stories at the touch of a button we recruited award-winning novelist Anthony Horowitz to pen a 60 second ‘whodunnit’ tale which is available exclusively through the machines.

Arts & CultureThere are several things a Monday morning commute is good for. One, catching up on life admin. Two, napping. And three, of course, mindlessly scrolling through your friends’ Instagram stories from the weekend.
But what the Canary Wharf Group want you to do instead is put your phone back in your bag, shake yourself awake and indulge in a little analogue reading time with their latest initiative ‘Short Story Stations.’ From three vending machine-like stations in the Canary Wharf area, at the touch of a button commuters receive one, three or five minute short stories for free, printed out on eco-friendly papyrus paper.
For the initiative’s launch, Brands2Life commissioned the novelist Anthony Horowitz to write an original 60-second ‘whodunnit’ tale titled Mr Robinson, available exclusively from the vending machines. The story takes less than a minute to read and yet contains all the suspects and clues of a classic crime read, which is the nation’s favourite genre according to Canary Wharf’s research.
In an era where people are looking to spend less time on their phones, this initiative is a great way to encourage people to get lost in a book, to be busy but in a more efficient way. And by doing it in short story form, the tales are easily consumable, no matter the length of your commute.
