FMCGIt might feel like summer was just yesterday but in typical blink-and-you-miss-it fashion, the Christmas festivities are now flying in at rapid pace. ‘They’re coming, be ready’ is the Christmas campaign from Argos created by The&Partnership that reminds audiences to be prepared.
Playing on the notion of the steady yet rapid build-up to Christmas the campaign centres around the story of a small family meal that grows into a very lively party. This starts with a couple decorating their home for Christmas when the wife asks the husband, “so, how many are coming?” He responds “hmm just a few”, completely oblivious about the number of people that are about to arrive at their home to celebrate.
Meanwhile, outside excited friends, family and neighbours are coming together toward the house, laden with champagne glasses, presents and Christmas galore, chanting in unison; ‘party’. The couple's house begins to shake at the force of the commotion and the soundtrack of an orchestral version of Opus’ Live is Life, now associated with Argos builds.
With a countless number of people hurtling towards the house the couple look at each other in panic but outside the crowd continues to grow with different members of the party engaged in various festive scenes such as pulling crackers while charging down the street. Family, neighbours, friends and colleagues appear to be on their way with suitcases and pillows, ready for a long stay.
As the ad draws to a close the couple grows more aware and accepting of the chaos ahead, taking deep breaths as the wife reassures her husband that “It’s going to be okay”. An aerial shot shows the cul-de-sac filled with all of the different groups of people ready for the couple’s Christmas party. The film ends with the message: “They’re coming”, “Be ready”.
The light-hearted ad dramatises a familiar scene for many families who have relatives or friends descend upon them during the festive period.
“We really wanted to bring a smile to viewers faces by highlighting the fun and comedic moments of Christmas get-togethers, along with the unique experience of being able to bring everyone, from all ages and backgrounds, to share a wonderful Christmas together at home.” said Rob Quartermain, Head of Marketing Campaigns, at Argos.
The campaign brings to life the chaos of Christmas get-togethers while giving customers a much needed tongue-in-cheek nudge to get in gear and ready for the holidays.
