Age UK, 'Emergency coronavirus appeal' by Brave
From the shift to remote working to the advent of virtual classrooms, there are few aspects of life that haven’t been significantly shifted by lockdown. Yet for older people, those in the vulnerable and at-risk section of society, the impact has been profound.
These are individuals, many of whom may live alone or are reliant on others for support and help, who will be feeling the burden of loneliness most acutely during this crisis. To offer support to these people, Age UK and Brave have created a new film starring Jim Broadbent to support the charity’s £10million emergency coronavirus appeal.
Calls to Age UK’s national Advice Line have increased by 88% since the crisis began, demonstrating the soaring demand for the charity’s services. The appeal aims to raise vital funds for essential services, such as information and advice, as well as providing more local support. It is also designed to raise awareness of the issues facing the older generations, from illness to a lack of food and medicines or not being able to see loved ones.
We have seen outpourings of support within communities as this lockdown continues to extend. Whether it’s a lunchtime call to an elderly relative, a pint of milk left on a doorstep or popping to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription, generosity and goodness are at the heart of these little, or large, acts of kindness.
