‘Being frazzled in the workplace has been dangerously normalised’
Comedian and actress Ruby Wax, Founder of mental health charity Frazzled, on taking stress seriously.
While we may not all be able to gather just yet in fields, grounds and theatres, Secret Cinema’s latest venture ensures that people still experience an evening to remember.
As the weather heats up and parks begin to fill with socially distanced picnickers, the current lack of large scale events is not going unnoticed by consumers. No festivals or gigs, sporting events or plays; many of this summer’s large scale gatherings of years past will not be happening.
This absence leaves a huge gap for consumers, experience-deprived after months in lockdown, desperate to resume some sense of life pre-COVID. While we may not all be able to gather just yet in fields, grounds and theatres, Secret Cinema’s latest venture ensures that people still experience an evening to remember.
Launching at the start of July, Secret Cinema is opening The Drive In at Goodwood Motor Circuit, an events series to retain the immersive storytelling they are so renowned for whilst also adhering to the government distancing guidelines.
The event series is hosted in partnership with Häagen-Dazs, and is aiming to provide some much-needed escapism and entertainment for people from the comfort of their cars. It will include the screening of films including Rush, Moanna and Dirty Dancing at the racing ground.
Secret Cinema allows people to escape reality through the magic and wonder of iconic and beloved films, and this is just what people need right now.

The Drive In, like everything Secret Cinema does, has been designed with the audience at the heart of the experience. As soon as people buy tickets, they will be immersed in the event’s narrative involving Frankie and Johnny Starlight, the owners of the original Drive In cinema. Each evening will begin with a 30-minute pre-screen performance from the Starlight’s involving film inspired tunes and interactive games streamed straight into your car. If you fancy seeing yourself up on the big screen, you can dial into the evening’s Zoom party to show off your best costumes, or perhaps even your heavily-adorned car interior.
Max Alexander, CEO of Secret Cinema said of the events: “Secret Cinema allows people to escape reality through the magic and wonder of iconic and beloved films, and this is just what people need right now.”
After three months in lockdown, people are looking for some semblance of normality in their lives, whether that’s queuing for a takeaway, visiting the shops on the first day they opened or watching a movie in style. The Drive In offers people an evening of escapism, a chance to sit back, relax and simply enjoy the movie. The chance to plan and put a much-needed something in their diary to look forward too.
