The Ukrainian tech startup has now seen over 15,000 Ukrainians sign up
With millions of Ukrainians forced to flee their homes due to Russian invasion, refugees are having to build new lives in countries where they are unable to speak the language. To help these displaced Ukrainian refugees, Ukrainian-founded tech start up, Preply has been offering free language lessons.
Preply has been offering the free lessons since March 2022 and has since seen lessons taken up by 15,000 people. 850 Preply tutors have volunteered their time to deliver lessons to support Ukrainians with the required language skills to live and thrive in their host country in 9 different languages.
In response to the successful take up, Dmytro Voloshyn, Co-Founder at Preply, said: ‘As a Ukrainian-founded company, we believe it is our duty to support Ukrainian displaced people by providing them with vital language skills to thrive in their new country. We are delighted that so many displaced Ukrainians have already signed up to our program and we look forward to welcoming many more to our lessons.’
Preply classes offer support to Ukrainians helping them adapt to their new surroundings. The lessons also provide a safe environment for refugees sharing similar experiences and offering a chance to connect. Language is extremely important for allowing the refugees to settle in their new homes, is vital for assimilation and allows refugees to seek employment in their host country.
The lessons offered are 55 minute group sessions, with approximately 6 students per class. From A1 to C1 level, the languages are available in 9 different languages: English, Polish, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch and Czech.
