This year’s immersive event from Kraken Rum sees cursed artworks on display
This Halloween, Kraken Rum’s annual Screamfest returns with a new immersive experience taking the form of a haunted art gallery, created and produced by Cow.
Not for the faint-hearted, consumers up for a scare can enter ‘Screamfest: House of Curses’ and see some of the UK’s most notorious haunted artworks. Guests sign waivers on arrival before entering a gallery of curated spooky artworks including a painting of a young girl that went viral last year after it was returned to a charity shop multiple times having wreaked havoc on those who bought it.
The experience has been curated by art historian and critic, Ruth Millington. The gallery comprises of six mini-exhibits, including ‘Cursed Creatures’, ‘Possessed Children’ and modern-day Creepypasta ‘Internet Lore’, with visitors receiving a walkthrough audio guide delving into the haunted backstories of each piece.
Visitors will enter through the ‘Cursed Creatures’ section where they will uncover the history of the Kraken. Haunted projector slides and artwork by Zac Webb will be on display as well as an original Damien Hirst skull. The ‘Creepypasta’ room explores internet spooks such as Slenderman and Goat Man while the ‘Dolls’ room is inhabited by haunted items such as ‘The Grace Doll’ donated by paranormal investigator Danny Moss. The dolls eyes are said to have been seen moving, watching visitors pass by.
The final exhibit, ‘The Unknown Girl’ is only accessible to audiences after signing a waiver. Those who reach the end of the experience can bask in the safety of The Kraken Bar. Here, an array of cocktails inspired by the haunted artworks are available to purchase while sage burns to ward away any evils.
No stranger to scares, last year The Kraken Rum’s Screamfest took the shape of a stock exchange which saw the price of drinks at the bar determined by customers' heart rates.
Those brave enough can purchase tickets for the House of Curses in Soho for £10 which includes entry and two free drinks. Free walk-in sessions will be available during the day on Friday and Saturday, however these will not include free drinks.
With the spooky season well and truly underway, Kraken Rum’s Screamfest provides audiences with a chillingly memorable experience this Halloween.
