Murray Calder has inspired arguably the advertising industry’s greatest ever playlist.

The playlist is in support of Maggie’s Centres, which provides free practical and emotional support for people living with cancer. Maggie’s Centres has supported Calder through Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

The playlist is the brainchild of Sera Holland, Co-Founder of Fawnbrake, alongside Amelia Torode and Ben Malbon. To support, all you need to do is donate to the JustGiving page and pick a track to add to Murray’s playlist.

Murray, who is also known as @ScotStratGuy on Twitter, began his career in brand management at the Edrington Group, which handles global whisky brands such as The Macalan, Highland Park and The Famous Grouse where he became Global Marketing Director. MediaCom managed to tempt him agency side as they built out their strategy offering in Edinburgh, where he became Chief Strategy Director.

As chair of the IPA in Scotland from 2012 to 2014 he championed and led the rejuvenation of effectiveness in the industry. He was also one of the original members of The Marketing Society Scotland Council.

As Sera Holland explains Murray is a force who instinctively challenges the ‘we’ve always done it like that’ approach to advertising. She explains: “He has always been a fierce advocate for the discipline of strategy, and curiosity, insight and constant challenge.”

She adds: "He's an infuriatingly talented polymath. He is also super creative. He runs a woodblock printing studio called The Haddock Press, so called because of his resemblance to Captain Haddock from TinTin, which is also why his SoundCloud is called The Captain Strut and his logo is his face in that illustrative style. He runs the business out of a shop called The Makery on Dunbar high street that he shares with his incredible wife Emma, who among many things is a jewellery designer.”

“Music is his absolute passion, and again, he's bloody amazing at it. He's DJ'd at legendary places like The Sub Club in Glasgow and he's a massive force in the #Sunday7Social on Twitter, which is now moving to a radio show on Isolated Talks,” she adds.

Holland continues: “If you haven't already, I can't recommend Murray's Isolated Talk talk on Fragility & Resilience enough.”
