The campaign from Lucky Generals follows a father and daughter who make their own joy at Christmas.
The story of a father hoping to make his daughter happy at Christmas time by creating a life-size version of her favourite snow globe is the heartwarming Christmas story that makes up Amazon’s festive campaign. The spot created by Lucky Generals and directed by Academy Award winner Taika Waititi brings to life the idea that joy can be made.
The film follows the story of the father and daughter in their house at Christmas. Audiences quickly learn that the little girl’s prize possession is her beloved snow globe and she doesn’t like to be parted from it for more than a moment. As the father learns how important the snow globe is to his child, he is inspired to create a special Christmas present for her. Enlisting the help of his neighbours, bringing in the community and with the simple purchase of a paper shredder from Amazon he sets out to create a life-size version of the snow globe.
At the end of the film, audiences are shown the heartwarming scene that the father has created, turning the family’s greenhouse into a magical snow globe, complete with a teddy bear dressed as a snowman, swirling snow created by shredded recycled paper and borrowed desk fans, and a mass of magical fairy lights.
The young girl is enthralled by the gift and audiences are taken by the father’s love, resourcefulness, and inventiveness seeing that he is determined to make his child’s Christmas magical. The advert ends with the message: “Joy is made”.
The film is set to a soundtrack of ‘You Hold Me Up’, a new release by US Indie artist The Bones of J.R. Jones. Singer, guitarist, and songwriter Jonathon Linaberry created the original track as a way of showing support beyond just conversation to a friend who was going through a tough time.
The film aims to show that joy can be home made at Christmas time as with a little inspiration and inventiveness Amazon products can help create the perfect gift.
“We’re constantly inspired by the inventive spirit of Amazon customers and we wanted to tell a story with a different view of generosity and giving at Christmas, and the joy from doing something special for someone you love," explained Ed Smith, EU GM of Marketing at Amazon. “We’re happy to play a small part in the creation of that joy, but the hero of the story is a father's love for his child.”
The campaign coincides with the launch of Amazon’s Christmas shop which offers gift inspiration and caters to a variety of budgets.
Where the cost-of-living crisis will likely see people think outside of the box to give gifts that go the extra mile for less, Amazon has positioned itself as a partner for inspiration and inventiveness to spread joy and love over Christmas.
