The Context

The international Olympic Committee and the The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, wanted to increase awareness for the Refugee Olympic and Paralympic teams ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.

While many people follow the sporting journey of their favourite athletes, few are aware of the experiences of refugee athletes on the ‘road to Tokyo’.

The Idea

We brought attention to the perilous journey of refugee athletes, through a dramatised story of a female refugee who has had to flee her home to escape conflict and persecution. The film shows that the journey to freedom isn't an easy one, as her life is constantly on the line.

The film was rolled out across socials in the US, UK and Australia. In addition to the social media film, 8 athletes did 30 interviews in English, French and Arabic. Their stories and the film were amplified by 50 different media outlets across the globe.
